GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Michigan State Police say they found a surprise guest during a drug bust this week: an alligator. The agency’s Metro Narcotics Enforcement Team executed a search warrant Tuesday at a home in Detroit’s Downriver region. They expected to find drugs, but not the reptile. It was turned over to a local animal shelter.

Among the drugs found in the home, according to MSP: Over 500 grams of methamphetamine; 10 grams of heroin; 6 grams of cocaine; and 371 grams of various pills, including oxycodone, gabapentin, and acetaminophen. A suspect was arrested and charges are pending, the agency said.

The weirdest thing they found was an alligator. Police said they turned the recovered reptile over to a local animal shelter. Detectives from the Metro Narcotics Enforcement Team recovered more than 500 grams of methamphetamine, 10 grams of heroin, six grams of cocaine and 371 grams of various pills, including oxycodone.
